Description
The Fragmented Figure - A Conference with an Associated Exhibition was convened by Professor Jeffrey Jones and curated by the Centre for Ceramics Studies, Cardiff School of Art and Design Wednesday 29 – Thursday 30 June 2005. The aim of the project was to gain a fuller understanding of the ways in which artists working with the figure, conceive, develop and articulate their ideas through the medium of ceramics and the ways the properties of the medium may contribute aesthetically to the expression or articulation of their ideas.
This major international event brought together seventy people from ten countries to listen to a wide range of presentations on a theme which was of key significance to artists and theorists of all kinds. The conference was accompanied by an exhibition of figurative ceramics which illuminated many of the issues raised during the conference proceedings.
Keynote speakers; Doug Jeck, University of Seattle, USA; Arie Hartog, curator at the Gerhard-Marcks-Museum, Bremen Germany; Dr Eugene Joseph Dwyer, Kenyon College , Ohio, USA and Dr Tessa Adams, Goldsmiths College, University of London.
