Qualitative Individual Interviews With Deaf People

This entry explores the process of interviewing individual Deaf people, in an overview of the field. Areas for discussion include the processes and practical steps of interview preparation and interviewing, involving considerations regarding the choice of methodology, recognition of the position of Deaf people, whether the researcher can be hearing, whether one can use an interpreter, how interviews can be recorded, and what questions are culturally appropriate to include in an interview schedule, and reflections are offered around the interplay of two languages.
