Description
Professor Jeffrey Jones gathered materials together during his time as a member of academic staff at University of Wales Institute Cardiff, now Cardiff Metropolitan University. These material formed the Ceramics Collection within the Special Collections. This recording was made to reveal the history of the collection and aspects of Professor Jones’ work and background. The recording was made on 26th October 2016. Originally 1 hour, 27 minutes and 27 second in duration it was edited into six parts in February 2017 by Paul Wearing, Senior Library Assistant.
Part 2: Discussion points: Jeffrey Jones’ role as Research Fellow, 1998 and Lecturer at Cardiff. The origins of the Ceramic Archive. References to Oliver Watson, Tanya Harrod, Garth Clark. The differences between information found in archives and other collections. The importance of ephemera. Reference to Cecile Johnson Soliz. Jeffrey Jones’ untrained approach to organising material. Creating material for the archive in the form of oral history audio and visual recordings of makers and artists. References to Moira Vincentelli at Aberystwyth and Mike Hughes at University of West of England ‘Recording the Crafts’, William Newland archive, Natasha Mayo recording Carmen Dionyse.
