Managing Productivity in Welsh Firms: Interim Report

The Hodge Research project has undertaken a survey of a broad and diverse range of businesses in Wales seeking to find some answers to the ‘productivity puzzle’ (Figure 1). Welsh productivity has been below most parts of England and Scotland for a very long time. This report seeks to provide a better understanding of some of the more micro- elements of this productivity puzzle in Wales. The objectives of the firms surveyed relate to either increasing or maintaining their profitability, growing the business, and ensuring that the business remains competitive.
