The Indian economy can be characterised as fast-growing, reflecting its young workforce, infrastructure and the development of the construction sector. The speed of adoption of emerging technologies by diverse industries has been observed as one of the key determinants of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and the Future of Work (FoW) in the Indian economy. The resultant automation has the potential to transform highly disorganised sectors such as transportation, maintenance, food catering and software development services into organised ones (FICCI et al., 2017). That said, government spending to date indicates there will be relatively modest potential for automation over the next 15 years (McKinsey, 2017).en_US
