dc.description.abstractThe central theme of the study was to examine the role dance can play in a child’s learning and development in the early years of school. To answer this research issue this study investigated the theme of ‘learning ‘, this provided a significant underpinning framework in answering the issues that came to light , such as the fundamental factors of creative and physical development for children in early years and the relationship between learning and child development. It has also explored the place of dance within the revised National Curriculum for Wales in early year’s education. This study presented a theoretical overview of the concept of movement. Highlighting and discussing the important role of creative movement through dance in child development and the multi-faceted potential that movement can have in the lives of young children. The study concluded that in the early years of learning young children learn through exploring their world using movement and their senses. This study established that creative and physical development strengthens a child’s confidence and ability to express themselves through movement, and dance is an effective way for young children to use their body and imagination. The recognition of dance in the revised National Curriculum for Wales is evident however it’s involvement and status it not so evident, further guidance/resources need to be given on dance and more examples on how teachers can implement dance within each area of learningen_GB
