This study examines why athletes within youth soccer listen to their coaches. Specifically, the study investigated the coach-athlete relationship, examining coaches behavior utilizing ASUOI and athlete response utilizing focus groups. The purpose of this was to gain an understanding of what pedagogical behaviors coaches utilized to influence their group in addition to gaining an in-depth understanding of how well athletes responded to the behaviors. The results of this study the reliability of Potrac et al. (2007; 2007) theory of coaches utilizing French and Ravens (1959) and Raven (1983) topologies of social power from the athletes perspective.
