MetadataShow full item record
The chapter is the fourth in a book, aimed at an international audience of literacy and English teachers and researchers. The book is edited by Professor Brian Street (Kings College London) Dr Carol Fox (University of Brighton) and Dr Viv Ellis (University of Oxford). It has contributions from many distinguished international authors. The book will be launched in London and New York in November 2007. The chapter responds to the first section of the book and discusses history and politics in the teaching of English. It aims to have an impact on teachers and their students as well as on the research community. As a whole the book places key questions about English, arising in the UK setting, within a wider international context. It examines how questions about English and literacy teaching from Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, the United States, Canada and Ireland intersect with those from the UK.
