The purpose of this study is to develop an exploration of performance indicators that are indicative to successful and unsuccessful performances and further evaluate the British & Irish Lions performance against South Africa. Crucially, 6 significant differences were acknowledged with turnovers contact (p<0.01) and number of kicks total (p<0.01) considerably different between the comparison of two teams. Further research into two distinct periods of play identified the importance of many variables, some which weren’t proved mathematically significant from the first study, when compared against each other within smaller fragments of time. The development of an exploration of performance indicators in rugby union established a greater insight to the characteristics a team possesses to gain successful performances.
