In the following research I adopted the etic perspective, where the research study under inspection became that of a personal one (Gratton & Jones, 2010) enabling me to consider my own choreographic processes through auto ethnography. This allowed me to reflect after the process to not disturb the "flow of action" (Schon, 1991, p277). A personal dance work "Chemical Straight Jacket" (Fox, 2010) was used for analysis, to unpick the how and whys of my choreographic development, which allowed me to gain a better understanding of how I approach choreography. Using specific reference to Lloyd Newson, Pina Bausch as professional choreographers; along with professional models, I found similarities between the approaches and processes of their work and my own.
