Out of the Box: The promotion of creativity in learners
'Creativity and Innovation' published extended versions of papers presented at the 2004 DATA International Research Conference. My contribution offered a fresh perspective on the 'creativity in crisis' debate which is engaging design and technology educators. Research undertaken with HE art and design teachers and learners had identified teaching approaches and methods which assisted learner-creativity, and those which undermined it. The experiential data gathered in the study closely paralleled findings from theoretical research into creativity and its development, suggesting that it might be possible to define a cross-disciplinary / cross-cultural pedagogic model for learner creativity. This paper provided an introduction to this pedagogic model, its efficacy supported by theoretical and experiential evidence. My co-author was a research assistant who was working under my direction.
