The purpose of this study is to determine any significant differences when (p<0.05) in turnover to goal rates between teams that are at the top of the league and teams that are at the bottom of the league playing in the Cardiff and District Netball League in division six. There are four different types of performances that were analysed; TvT, TvB, BvT and BvB (B = bottom half of the divisions, T = top half of the division) from twenty one netball matches within the division. The data was collected in real time through a hand notational system previously designed and tested. The hand notational system recoded all the variables of different types of turnovers that can occur in netball and weather the turnovers were converted to a goal. These variables included interceptions, defensive rebounds, free pass, penalty pass, sideline, backline etc. Non-parametric statistical tests were used on the collected data to determine any significant differences in the different types of performances in turnover to goal rates. A Mann-Whitney-U Test and a Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test were the statistical tests used in order to reveal these differences. The results of this study showed that there were significant differences (p<0.05) in the total number of turnovers made between TvB and BvT performances. It was also found that there was a significant difference in the number of live turnovers that were converted to goal between TvB and BvT performances. The implications of this study are that the results and research can be useful for coaches as they will be able to implement training programmes into sessions and plan sessions for the team or individual players in order to improve or solve the problem of their turnover to goal rates in netball. This study can also be transferred to other levels of netball or even other sports such as Basketball.
