Abstract
Jock culture has been described as a physically and mentally damaging culture to both the individual and society. This study explored the implications of jocks using Facebook in order to reconstruct masculine ideologies. The study conducts research by analysing previous literature on Jock culture and Facebook. Literature was reviewed and analyzed in regard to results gained from semi structured interviews and ethnographic and auto ethnographical approaches. Following analysis and interpretation of the data key themes were addressed in relation to the literature such as power relations, impression management, homophobic attitudes and disembodied interactions. Findings suggested that implications can arise when sub cultures are present in two autonomous worlds.
