Abstract
Disabled sport has grown in stature markedly over the last thirty years or more. This is partially due to changes in anti-discrimination legislation in favour of the disabled, and also a new breed of athlete coming to the fore. Despite this, performance analysis resources in this area have not kept pace with the growth. This project seeks firstly to investigate the circumstances surrounding this, with the goal of addressing this imbalance by providing a solution in the form of software to capture and analyse game data for a wheelchair rugby team. Although there is a lack of specific literature on disabled sports performance analysis other areas of interest will be brought into the discussion, with the justification for this endeavour in depth ranging from social issues for the disabled, through coaching elements and discussion of the currently available software. Building upon this discussion, current software is discussed, the nature of the end-user, available methodologies in terms of project and HCI, whilst also specifying the software tools which are to be used. The resultant prototype is illustrated, and detailed explanation of its’ construction is given. The overall efficacy of the project in achieving its’ goals is evaluated. This evaluation judges the system prototype against the original brief; in terms of client feedback - garnered from interview; against its’ peers in the current software market; prior research is discussed and comparison made between previous and current conclusions. The culmination of the debate comes together with all discussions brought together in the final conclusion.
