Abstract
A single body of work distributed over five exhibitions. Comprising original prints/artist’s books exploring the process of defilement or alteration of existing published material. The linked exhibitions were curated by Clive Jennings, Director of the National Print Gallery, and Sandra Higgins Fine Art, London, alongside Simon Finch Rare Books, London, (a world leading dealer in the genre) to instigate a relationship between print and the artist’s book. The work has a single research imperative: to explore ways in which graphic juxtaposition forces etiquettes within British culture to confront and clash, to make tangible the role of imagery and humour and reconstruct new values in culture. In one case, the series "English Aquariums in Country Houses in Colour" juxtaposes domestic aquarium culture and stately homes! Brandon Taylor author of 'Collage: The Making of Modern Art', and two previous critical essays of Ferry’s work writes, 'his Book Arts and Printmaking create a very individual footprint in contemporary art, and bear witness to the influences of John Heartfield and the classic photomontage tradition'. Works were purchased by, Museum of Modern Art, New York, Victoria & Albert Museum, London. The Jack Gisnsburg ( Ampersand Foundation) Collecton, South Africa. Two further works acquired by, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, and National Gallery of Wales. Examples of works from these exhibitions have been referenced in these key publications/ exhibitions, Korean Craft Biennale 2009, Cheogju, IMPACT 6 Multidisciplinary International Printmaking Conference UWE, Bristol, 2009, Impact 7 Melbourne, Australia 2011, Whitechapel Book Fair, London , ‘PhotoParis, France, Los Angles Art Fair, USA, , San Francisco Book Fare USA, all 2009, Printmakers Secrets, 2009, AC Black, London ISBN 9780713689112. ’H2O’ Chelsea Future Space, London 2011.
