Abstract
David Ferry was invited, as an international 'book artist', to select and curate the 'international section' for the 'Book Arts Odyssey' International Book Arts Exhibition, held at the National Korean Craft Museum, in Cheong-Ju, as part of the overall '2009 Korean Craft Biennale'. David Ferry exhibited two works to the exhibition. This invitation followed his contribution to be an invited exhibitor and essay writer for a former major international book arts exhibition ('International Book Arts Exhibition 2008') held in the National Korean Craft Museum, Cheong-Ju, in October 2008. In a global context, the two catalogues and the two exhibitions provide an international museum level dissemination with both a contemporary and historical appraisal into the aesthetic and genre of 'book arts'. In her catalogue essay for the 2009 exhibition entitled, 'Book Art Odyssey-Variation of Book and Art through Visualised Aesthetic Formative Phraseology', Shin, Hyun-Ju, the Korean art historian and critic, provides a conceptual platform for international 'book arts' to be reviewed and considered. David Ferry is cited on page 11 of this text with a double page colour reproduction of his exhibited work. Nam Sang-Woo the president of the organizing committee of the International Craft Biennale of Korea, in his introduction the exhibition on page 5 of this catalogue, adds further dialogue as to the importance of this exhibition in relation to the origination and invention of 'Jikji', or metal type face in the city of Cheong –Ju (the host city of the 2009 Biennale) in cir 1377, which was the major contribution to the printed text in the Far East. The 2008 catalogue provides an historical survey and section of Korean books in print. David Ferry presented a listed seminar event based on his selection of books for the museum, which was televised for the museum.
