Abstract
The aim of this study was to follow the UWIC Archers Women’s Basketball team and calculate the efficiency of their set plays. The UWIC Archers play in the EBL Division 1 league. The data was taken from eight National League games from the 2009-10 season. There were 18 set plays used by the team, split into half court, end line and sideline plays. Also recorded were the possession starters for each offence and the outcome of all set plays. This study used Sportscode Elite 7 for the analysis of games, from which the data was transferred into Microsoft Excel where the efficiencies were calculated. The set play '3' was the most efficient at 57.7%, with 'Zone' having the greatest points per possession at 1.5, and the fast break accounting for the highest number of total points at 226. This indicates that although the fast break is not the most efficient, the coach should emphasise its use as it produces the most points. More emphasis should also be made on focusing on the successful outcomes of plays rather than just the right shot selection.
