The research conducted was a case study analysis of Malmesbury School’s physical education department, and the implementation of PE and sport initiatives. Breaking into identified themes including the desired outcomes of physical education. The concepts and characteristics of high quality sport and PE, and finally the government’s role in implementing identified initiatives. To conduct this research, data collection was of a qualitative nature. A sample of key individuals was selected on the basis of their roles within the school. Five subjects were chosen to discuss their thoughts, opinions and attitudes about the identified themes. These were semi-structured interviews (n=5), which allowed the interviewees answers to be rich in data, useful for analysis and discussion. Interviews were transcribed and analysed through highlighting identified themes. From the results and analysis of the study, it is able to conclude that high quality teaching and provision can be identified both in and out of the curriculum. This continued quality of delivery is down to the commitment enthusiasm and abilities of the teachers. The imminent withdrawal of the government’s support, funding and encouragement, of this initiative will have implications, such as reduced opportunities and resources for young people. Which may result in a failure to achieve the targets the government set for themselves in their ambitious policies.
