dc.description.abstractThis study used a sociological viewpoint to assess the strategies a male football coach used to gain the respect of his players. A mixed-method approach was used in this study through the use of observational analysis of training sessions followed by an interview with the coach. This mixed method approach was used in order to attain data and results influenced by both the coach and the researchers perceptions of different observations. This study focused on three main topics; coaching behaviour, discourse and rationales and how they affect the players’ relationship with the coach. Through analysis of the observations and interview, it was apparent that the coach had an understanding of the importance of sociology in coaching and utilised this knowledge to create an environment where his team were able to thrive and also afford the coach a high level of respect.en_GB
