dc.description.abstractBilingual children with a phonological disorder require assessments that consider both their languages. There is a growing amount of research looking at the phonological development of Welsh-English bilingual children; however most of these studies focus on consonant development as opposed to the vowels of each language. In addition to this, most research studies focussing on the Welsh language assume that the first language of that child is Welsh. This study bridges the gap, therefore by examining the vowels of Welsh and English alongside comparing differences that may occur depending on whether the child is from a Welsh or an English dominant home. Twenty male subjects from Carmarthenshire took part in the study. The participants were split into two, equal numbered, dominance groups (Welsh and English). Recordings of the target vowels were collected within a /hVd/ environment supported by a carrier phrase in the appropriate language. The results present the vowels of each language, using various statistical tests to analyse the effect of language dominance on vowel production, as well as any cross language interaction that occurs between pairs of similar vowels.en_US
