This study investigated the effect of inspiratory muscle training upon an index of sports performance rather than a marker of physiological capacity. Inspiratory muscle training improved a six minute all out rowing effort and 5000 meter time trial performance. These improvements were accompanied by a decrease in inspiratory muscle fatigue and a decreased perception of dyspnea. Backx contributed to the design of the study, the data collection, and edited the manuscript.
