In the 30s Wingate Anaerobic Test individual power output values are obtained longitudinally, the largest value being used to represent peak power output (PPO) irrespective of the time at which it occurs. Despite this, the mean PPO value of a group of subjects is calculated cross-sectionally. This procedure is inappropriate. To correct this weakness individual power values should be aligned according to PPO, and power values expressed, not to real time, but to time from PPO. This method will provide a more accurate measure of mean PPO, and a more realistic configuration of the mean PPO curve.
