dc.description.abstractPhysical activity is said to improve physiological and psychological functioning of the body, There is currently a low level of participation within girls which needs to be looked at. Aim: This study was aimed at finding out what prevalent barriers are currently in place for girls in physical education, then using these results to create suggestions for ways in which to break down the barriers and get more girls participating. Method: All participants participated in an interview session addressing questions based around current school life. Interviews were then transcribed and using inductive and deductive research key findings were established. Results: Barriers from previous literature were heavily prevalent within the results, other barriers also emerged which therefore further highlighted that there is a current issue with girls in physical education. Conclusion: Barriers are still in place for girls within in school and recent attempts at initiatives have only achieved none or short term success which then dies out. More research needs to be conducted within the area and work needs to be closely linked with teachers to help create effective strategies.en_US
