Reflective Practice: An exploration into the relationship between reflection, experience and coaching competence in male football coaches.

This Investigation looks to evaluate reflective practice with regards to expert and novice football coaches. In summary, the aim of the study was to consider the benefits of reflective practice and if used, why and how has this use of this reflection assisted the coach’s perceived development. Participants were chosen from Cardiff Metropolitan University, with expert football coaches (n=3) and novice football coaches (n=3) having to match up to the specific criteria stated. The data collection method was conducted independently by the researcher through semistructured interviews and then transcribed to depict the views of the participants. Common findings were that expert coaches tended to utilise reflection both during and after practice, whereas novice coaches preferred to reflect afterwards due to their lack of knowledge and confidence.
