The basis of this dissertation is to study the Foundation Phase and the concept of play in early childhood. The introductory part of this research project plans to explain the reasons as to why the subject of the Foundation Phase was chosen, the area in which the research will be carried out, and the audience that the questions will be asked. The second part of the research plans to examine the proposed question in funher detail, exploring different accounts and a range of literatures in order to initiate a diverse and balanced argument and to discuss others' views about the subject in hand. I planned to use a variety of resources such as books, joumals and the internet in order to achieve the hopes that I would instigate a strong and interesting discussion. The purpose of the methodology chapter was simply to build upon the literature examined in chapter two and to set out the specific question and issues I planned to investigate. Justifications for these questions were then considered, and the methods I would employ in order to achieve my results. The choice and design of the data collection instruments were then to be piloted analysed so as to test which methods would prove to be more successful. For my data analysis chapter, the purpose was simply to collect all my data together and analyse the end results and record the findings in an appropriate and professional manner. Qualitative data from questionnaires used as one method of research were then collected into graphs depicting the different responses gathered from varying schools. A comprehensive description and analysis of all the data gathered was then performed, which therefore allowed me to form a plausible answer to my proposed research question. In conclusion to the dissertation question, it was then necessary to evaluate and evaluate and assess all the work completed in order to build upon my experiences as a researcher and to weigh up all the positive and negative aspects throughout my research.
