Simulation models of impacts have traditionally been developed with rigid segments. The inertia parameters required to represent the rigid segments have subsequently been derived using a customised rigid body geometric model. This paper presented the first component geometric modelling approach for deriving subject-specific soft (wobbling) and rigid tissue inertia parameters for contemporary wobbling mass simulation models of impacts. The research was presented at the International Society of Biomechanics in Sport (2004) in Ottawa, Canada and was subsequently short-listed for the New Investigator’s Award at the conference.

Biomechanical Analysis of Angular Motion in Association with Bilateral Semicircular Canal Function
Shen, Shuang; Zhao, Fei; Chen, Zhaoyue; Yu, Shen; Cao, Tongtao; Ma, Peng; Zheng, Qing Yin (Elsevier, 2019-12-18)The aim of this study was to characterize cupular deformation by calculating the degree of cupular expansion and cupular deflection using a finite element model of bilateral human semicircular canals (SCCs). The results ... -
Interactive effects of mass proportions and coupling properties on external loading in simulated forefoot impact landings
Gittoes, Marianne J.R.; Kerwin, David G. (Human Kinetics, 2009)This study aimed to gain insight into the individual and interactive effects of segmental mass proportions and coupling properties on external loading in simulated forefoot landings. An evaluated four-segment wobbling mass ... -
The influence of foot orthoses on foot mobility magnitude and arch height index in adults with flexible flat feet
Sheykhi-Dolagh, Roghaye; Saeedi, Hassan; Farahmand, Behshid; Kamyab, Mojtaba; Kamali, Mohammad; Gholizadeh, Hossein; Derayatifar, Amir; Curran, Sarah (SAGE, 2014-03-06)Background: Flexible flat foot is described as a reduction in the height of the medial longitudinal arch and may occur from abnormal foot pronation. A foot orthosis is thought to modify and control excessive pronation and ...
