Abstract
The ability to assess team situation awareness was tested using a task-oriented perspective devised by Patrick and James and a retrospective critical incident technique analysis. These techniques were refined and used in novel assessments of awareness in rugby and presented twice at the World Congress of Performance Analysis of Sport (Belfast, Ireland, 2004 & Szombathely, Hungary, 2006). James was involved in data collection and analysis, undertook all statistical analyses and edited the manuscript. This research was financially supported by the Industry Management Committee of the UK HSC Coordinated Programme of Nuclear Safety Research.
