Abstract
Three dimensional direct linear transformation (DLT) is the accepted standard for video reconstruction in biomechanics research, but linear scaling with angle correction continues to be used for two dimensional video analyses. This paper challenged the latter approach by comparing it with the scientifically more substantive two dimensional DLT technique. Surveyed data points representative of a typical sport setting were reconstructed using both techniques to highlight the limitations of linear scaling. This paper is part of Kerwin’s ongoing work into improving techniques which have been used at International Olympic Committee sponsored research projects at four Olympic Games.
