This enterprise project is an investigation in to whether a rural childcare facility would be a feasible business to start up on a family farm in Beaford, North Devon. The project has been completed as part of the authors BA (Hons) Leisure & Sports Management degree. The project involved carrying out a literature review of the topic area and a market study to determine the feasibility of, and demand for the proposed business. Finally a business plan was created which was determined by factors found in the literature review and market study. The business plan involved constructing a three year financial forecast to identify whether the business was financially viable. Primary and secondary research was carried out using both desk and field research. Primary research was undertaken through questionnaire format. Results determined from primary research illustrate there is a market for the proposed day-care. Secondary research was conducted through desk research, identifying local competitors and analysing key local demographics. Further competitor analysis was conducted by following a SV/OT analysis of Coombe Farm - Countryside Daycare. The author was able to rank her business against both direct and indirect competitors. It was shown by this analysis that Coombe Farm - Countryside Daycare could potentially achieve market dominance by the end of year 3. Evidence from the research has demonstrated that it would be financially viable for the author to establish Coombe Farm - Countryside Daycare within the area of North Devon. It is thought that with hard work, to meet business aims and objectives, Coombe Farm - Countryside Daycare can achieve its potential and become the number one provider of day-care with in the rural environment.
