The Enterprise Project was chosen by the researcher as part of her course work to obtain her Hospitality Management Degree. It has become an interesting and challenging project which has considered how to take an empty building through its transformation into a restaurant. The aim of the Enterprise Project is to assess the feasibility and requirements of opening a new buffet restaurant in Merthyr Tydfil. The objectives are to undertake a literature review which will cover the start up of a restaurant, market trends that will affect its operation, restaurant businesses in general and thereafter to consider the results of primary and secondary research. This will provide a detailed insight into potential competition, their products and prices. Research will also cover the intended customer base and trends. Also, a business plan will be produced to explain the aims and objectives of the proposal, then a suitable marketing strategy following detailed competitor analysis. There will also be legal requirements to consider. A three year financial forecast will be produced to assess the on-going viability of the project. The researcher has covered many varied topics and suggestions to consider if such a project would have a realistic chance of success. The project was undertaken during the course of a deep economic recession which has had an effect on the researcher's attitude towards suggesting a business start-up. However, all the investigation undertaken has pointed to a positive outcome for this business and has encouraged the researcher to become the proposer and push forward with the project.
