This work formed part of Wilson’s PhD and the resulting paper presents an approach for evaluating a computer simulation model of the contact phase in running jumps for height using kinetic and kinematic data. The paper highlights the importance of the evaluation of a model in that results obtained using a model which has not been evaluated may be misleading. Elements of this work formed the basis for an award winning presentation at the International Society of Biomechanics in Sport Conference (2004). Wilson was responsible for the data collection and analysis and produced the first draft of the paper.
