This paper investigated the influence of 'technical requirements', 'anatomical ranges of movement' and 'consistency of performance' on a human executing a running jump and evolved from Wilson’s PhD. Whilst the effect of each of these factors had been investigated in differing activities, no prior study had incorporated all three factors to determine their relative effects in a single activity. An invited symposium presentation at the 2007 World Congress of Biomechanics resulted from this work. Wilson was responsible for the data collection and analysis, produced the first draft of the paper and contributed to the final editing of the paper.
