Abstract
The second of two linked manuscripts published in Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, this qualitative follow-up study, provided important insights in to the findings of the goal-setting intervention (the first of the two linked manuscripts) and its hypothesized effects. Specifically, the study identified a number of possible mechanisms for the effects of the goal-setting intervention, in addition to highlighting the importance of individual difference variables and the interaction of person and situational variables. The findings have particular relevance for sports medicine providers and those involved with the rehabilitation of injured athletes.
