This was a survey of anthropometric and professional experience related variables of over 2000 elite professional soccer players who compete in Europe’s four major domestic soccer leagues. Significant interactions between league and playing position revealed evidence of different player characteristics preferred by teams in the four different leagues. The profile of national origins of overseas players was also significantly different between the four leagues. O’Donoghue assisted in designing the study and undertaking the statistical analysis.
