The combination of eccentric, followed by concentric loading, as ssen in plyometric training is an effective way to enhance muscle performance but the influence of the movement velocity in the eccentric phase is unclear. This study examined the effect of manipulating the velocity of eccentric movement during an 8-week plyometric training programme on jump performance and muscle properties. Training with faster eccentric movements led to greater improvement in countermovement jump performance and a reduced transition time between eccentric and concentric phases. Toumi designed the protocol, assisted in data collection and wrote / edited the manuscript.
