The purpose of this study was to identify common strengths and weaknesses within the fast bowling action in cricket. By identifying strengths and weaknesses a framework was compiled to enable coaches the ability to understand the fast bowling technique and coach it safely and effectively. Six semi-elite fast bowlers aged 18±3 were filmed performing the action at match intensity. A six-phase model was designed and used to perform an in depth technique analysis on each bowler. Each bowler was analysed qualitatively before being gathered together in order to identify common strengths and weaknesses. This information was used to identify specific performance indicators based on common strengths, which allowed the creation of the framework. Common faults were also incorporated in the compilation of the framework along with performance diagnostics, in order to help coaches identify faults within an action. This research allows coaches of all abilities a clear understanding of the fast bowling technique and how it should be performed.
