The Effect of the Economic Downturn on the Drinking Habits of Bulgarians

The purpose of this research paper is to investigate the effect of the recent economic downturn on the drinking habits of Bulgarians. The main research objective is to identify whether there are changes in the drinking habits of Bulgarians influenced by the recent recession. The main drinking habits that are part of this study are the amount of alcohol consumed, place of alcohol consumption, alcohol brand and type selection, alcohol type preferences, and home-made alcohol production and consumption. The first chapter presents the topic to the reader. It contains a rationale that provides basic background information about the subject of the study. The second chapter examines the available literature about the topic. It analyzes various theories regarding the drinking habits of people during a time of negative economical conditions. The most up-to-date information about the drinking habits of Bulgarians is introduced. The third chapter presents the methodology behind the primary and secondary research. The philosophical approach that is utilized is positivism and that the research approach that is adopted is induction. The findings and analysis chapters present the results from the primary research and compare these results with the information from the secondary research. The final chapter summarizes the findings of the primary and secondary research. Based on these findings a theory is formed. This theory is referred to the main research objective.
