This report is written for the purposes of researching the possibilities for developing the organic farming in Bulgaria, as the main theme is formulated as: "Potential for Development of Organic Farming in Bulgaria – Consumer Survey and Farm Producers Standpoints". The topic of organic farming is relatively new to both consumers and farm producers in Bulgaria. That is one of the main reasons why it is important to investigate the development of that sphere and the possibilities for future growth. In order to fulfill the pre-set objectives conducting an empirical research was required. It investigated the consumers’ awareness, opinion and knowledge on the matter as well as the standpoints, opinion, and attitude of the farm producers. To complement the empirical data, comprehensive secondary data was collected as well. The subject of organic farming is broad and there are many different issues and interested parties related to it. The research methods included sample design, data collection, questionnaire design, and data analysis methods. The researcher chose to research consumers and farm producers on national level. The preferred method for data collection is survey. Two separate questionnaires were designed: one for the farm producers and one for the consumers. Different methods of data analysis were applied in order to allow opportunities for different analysis as: frequencies, correlation, cross-tabulation, mean, median, regression, and t-test. The results show that there is opportunity for development of the organic market in Bulgaria. The consumers are interested in the products, and are seeking more information. The farm producers are stimulated by the government and the European Union via different funding programmes to convert to organic producers. Researching the topic unveiled many issues of the industry from both sides (consumers’ and producers’) that need to be attended in order to develop the sector.
