An Exploratory Study into the Possible Causes and Effects of Presenteeism within a UK Supermarket

This interpretivistic, qualitative exploration into the existence of presenteeism with a UK supermarket focuses on the decisional factors that contribute towards whether an employee attends work. Also, what impacts of working when ill, or should otherwise be absent, has on an employee and the quality of their work. Building on a relatively little researched concept; a qualitative research method was used in the form of semi-structured interviews. A sample of five employees was used, containing employees at different levels of the store hierarchy. The questions were built upon key literature established in the literature review, and aimed to explore individual experiences and shared meanings.
