This qualitative thesis explored the various perceptions of those working in a 'gendered' workplace, focusing primarily on those working in the Cardiff School of Management at Cardiff School of Metropolitan. The exploration into 'gendered' workplace regarding Higher Education Institutes has been researched previously; however, focusing on Cardiff School of Management and their lecturing staffs has not. A qualitative research method was utilised for this study, which involved 14 participants, 7 males and 7 females working at CSM. Semi-structured interviews were conducted which explored the working environment. The participants were questioned regarding gender inequality and whether it existed at CSM, followed by an exploration into the individuals experience regarding support and progression within the Institute. Analysis of the qualitative data implies that the stereotypical barriers which exist in the majority of Higher Education Institutes do not exist at Cardiff School of Management. Four major themes were established from the participant’s responses; male or female dominance in the workplace, gender inequality, gender bias, and any amendments required with regards to progression.
