Developing Byala as family-friendly tourism destination

Byala town of Bulgaria is one of the sea-side resorts which provide great opportunities for the development of family-friendly tourism. This study was to explore the potential, strengths and weaknesses of Byala as a family-friendly tourist destination for further development in relation to its attractions, facilities and accessibility. The study employs a quantitative method approach by conducting questionnaires among family tourists visiting Byala for evaluating attitudes and expectations they have about Byala as a family-friendly tourist destination in order to define main strengths and weaknesses of the destination. Data were collected using self-administrated questionnaires. About 300 potential respondents were contacted and 110 completed questionnaires were received back. The undertaken research identified family tourist consumer preferences and characteristics of family-friendly tourist destination. The results indicated that most of the family tourists who have visited Byala are satisfied with the tourist product and services provided at the destination. However, several things were mentioned by the family tourists that are needed to be improved related to attractions, facilities and accessibility of the destination. The paper concludes with recommendations for future research.
