Physical Literacy is a pedagogical principle within Physical Education. The aim of Physical Literacy is to build upon physical, psychological, social and cognitive domains, so that individual will continue physical activity throughout life (Whitehead, 2010). The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers’ knowledge and understanding of this concept. Semi-structured interviews were used to question six participants (three Physical Education teachers, the Head of the Physical Education Department, the Deputy Head and the Head Teacher) all of which were from the same school. The main findings from this study demonstrates that all the teachers understood the domains of Physical Literacy and how to apply them individually in lessons. However, only two of the interviewees understood the holistic approach of the concept, which is vital in maximising the rate of development of physically literate individuals. These findings show a clear lack of understanding within this particular school, but there needs to be more research done in this area, on a wider scale, in order to declare lack of understanding of Physical Literacy as a commonality between all Physical Education teachers.
