dc.description.abstractThis study aimed to build on previous research into the areas of the underpinning values of the coach-athlete relationship, the idea of the study is to gain an understanding of the key themes which emerge when talking about the quality of the coach-athlete relationship. Coaching is a complex, dynamic process that involves interpersonal relationships between coach and athlete (Jones et al, 2004). As a role of the coach is to steer the actions and behaviour of individuals through their attitude, values and beliefs, this will form part of this research to investigate the beliefs and experiences of the athletes, on the quality of the coach-athlete relationships within their sport. This will be done by viewing the experiences of the athletes and comparing it to the current literature available on the coach-athlete relationship. It was found that understanding the individual is a key factor which has an effect on the coach-athlete relationship; therefore backing up the idea that coaching is complex as each individual is different, consequently a coach needs to have the social skills to adapt to each individual needs in order to achieve a positive coach relationship.en_US
