This study examined the types of stressors and subsequent cognitive, emotional, coping, and behavioral responses that academy cricketers experienced throughout the week leading up to, and during, performance. Four academy cricketers completed Stress and Emotion Diaries (SEDs) throughout a 7-day pre-competition period and on the day of performance. In order to explore the information provided in the SEDs, semi-structured interviews were conducted that: a) explored the performers stress experiences for the 7-day pre-performance period; and, b) investigated the stress experiences on the day of performance. The presented findings provide insight the transactions of cricketers with their environment over a sustained period leading up to and during performance. Specifically, the findings illuminate that cricketers face a diversity of stressors, appraise each stressor in relation to their existing goals, experience emotions as a consequence, and attempt to cope through a number of different strategies, which ultimately impacts on their behaviors.
