The following states the aim of this dissertation; Aim: • To establish the prohibiting factors that affect the attendance of Global sporting events with a focus on the FIFA World Cup in Brazil 2014 from the perspective of the England supporters. The following research was firstly conducted by using online surveys which were sent out to 50 people, yet the researcher received a higher response rate therefore gaining more answers than needed and increasing the sample. The second phase was to conduct two interviews with two participants on their experiences and opinions on World Cups and to decipher any differences between the online surveys and interview answers. The online surveys and two interviews proved an emerging factor that the cost of the event, and then the underlying costs of travel and accommodation were the main factors in influencing individuals to not attend World Cups, especially Brazil 2014. The other emerging factors that influenced non-attendance were due to the location of the event, and the safety of the country in which the event was held. Therefore the conclusion stated that for this event to prove a change in attendance for England supporters their needs to be a difference in the price, with the event being seen as too expensive people are not willing to sacrifice their money to attend. Another conclusion to be made is that of FIFA needing to examine the safety of the supporters travelling to the country, without a change in safety many supporters are simply not willing to attend.
