A feasibility study has been made in regards to a potential pasta bar by the name of Pronto Pasta. The purpose of the entire study was to evaluate if setting up a pasta bar just outside of Cardiff’s city centre in an area called Gabalfa which is completely inundated with students would be successful. The authors ideas consists of bringing a new take on Italian pasta dishes with a quirky but quick and simple twist which includes the customer being in complete control of their meal, from what type of pasta to the sauce and to the extras. Takeaways are becoming increasingly popular in the UK and with many more cuisines entering the takeaway/restaurant sector it is evident that the public are more open to spending money on fast food regularly. There are no similar pasta bars that have the same concept of Pronto Pasta in Cardiff. The initial idea came about when the author thought that Subway and Wok to Walks current ordering system would work perfectly with a cuisine the author absolutely loves. In depth secondary research was conducted in the form of a literature review using relevant sources from books, journals newspapers and websites to gain an understanding into the following areas: entrepreneurship, small businesses, Gabalfa as a location, restaurant and takeaway sectors, legislations and healthy eating. Primary research was also conducted through the use of 70 questionnaires filled by the passing public in Cardiff’s city centre as well as 2 interviews by relevant establishments. Both helped to gain an understanding into what the people of Cardiff would like and how hard it is to run a business. The market research was supported by the secondary research. The business plan was created with the help of Venture Wales graduate start up support business plans with guidance notes. The plan included sections such as marketing, management and personnel, products and services, finances and future developments. The primary and secondary research enabled the author to adapt each section within the business plan in regards to the business idea. The three year financial forecast was created by supporting evidence which identified that Pronto Pasta would gain profit in its first 3 years, making it a feasible venture.
