Various studies has been conducted based on the concept of online gaming and the different perspectives surrounding the matter. The absence of research studies on University students regarding online game playing persuaded the researcher to conduct a study to find out how playing can effect young players. The researcher was also interested in finding the opinions of players to gain a deeper understanding about games and highlight the concerns in depth. The analysis expected to find that students benefit from online gaming in an educational context, as well as educational games obtaining educational value. However, the analysis also expected to find that students can experience negative issues regarding gaming, particularly amongst health experiences. In order to achieve the main objectives set by the researcher a combination of both primary and secondary research was used. Moreover, the primary research used in this study allowed the researcher to gain a clearer idea of what students thought of the concept of online game playing. The main reason for carrying out primary research in this study was to reveal the beliefs of students in order to find the advantages and disadvantages of playing on academic performance. Additionally, the secondary research allowed the researcher to create a review of literature on gaming throughout recent years. The analysis found that students benefit excessively from playing, especially if the game contains positive content and is used in moderation. Contrary to expectation, the analysis showed that a range of negative experiences may damage players regarding the long term effects. The significance of this analysis is that students are aware of the harmful effects gaming obtains if players overuse. All of these matters discussed will be highlighted in depth throughout this research.
