This dissertation sets out to investigate the use of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) for teaching and scholastic activities in further and higher educational institutions. The educational institutions that have been chosen for the primary research are Ystrad Mynach College, a further education institution, and Cardiff Metropolitan University, a higher educational institution. The aim of this research is to identify the advantages and disadvantages of academic staff using a BYOD approach as part of teaching and scholastic activities. For this investigation the primary methodology that was used was pragmatism and the research gathered an interesting pool of data. When analysing the data, academic staff from Ystrad Mynach College (YMC) and Cardiff Metropolitan University (CMU) came to similar conclusions about the advantages and disadvantages of BYOD for teaching and scholastic activities. In addition there were no significant differences between the two educational institutions when it came to the types of devices that staff utilised for teaching and scholastic activities. Following this, recommendations were made to both educational institutions on how BYOD could potentially be implemented into teaching activities and used for scholastic activities. Training and support recommendations were also made, concluding with future areas to be researched.
