Multimedia technology has grown tremendously in the past few years, where almost all devices can display various media such as high quality images, high definition videos, and digital music. It is a no wonder to think of numerous possibilities how multimedia affects the learning outcome of students. If the use of multimedia were utilised to replace traditional teaching methods such using paper notes and PowerPoint slides, it would portray different results to students’ learning capabilities.
For example, the use of video to explain specific tasks is more interactive and clearly shows the audience how the tasks should be carried out. Conversely, instructions written on paper to implement such task are less interactive and dull, as one would find it time-consuming to read every text and figuring out how to execute those tasks.
This report aims to investigate in what ways the integration of multimedia can affect students to learn efficiently and effectively. Therefore, the application for Mari Belajar Huruf dalam Fonik (Learning Alphabets in Phonics) is developed especially for young children to learn alphabets in Malay Phonics.
Investigative steps will be taken to support this research. The first step is to review current literatures as primary research data. The second step involves conducting interviews in extracting the required syllabus and methods implemented to teach Malay Phonics. This is part of the requirements analysis of this project. The design phase is the third step, where conceptual design and early interface sketches of the application are produced. The implementation of the design phase from the previous step to develop the application will be the fourth step. In this step, actual programming and interface design will be carried out to develop the final product. The final step is to acquire feedbacks from users who had tested the final product of this project and its functionality will be evaluated. Further enhancements of the application will be discussed in the conclusion of this research.
