Abstract
The aim of this dissertation has been to identify and analyse the sociological impact of cultural events and to explore the effect on participants. The objectives were achieved through a mixed method approach to ensure a varied and diverse amount of data was collated to ensure optimum results. The methodology adopted to achieve the aims of the study consisted of conducting online questionnaires and focus groups. Participants were selected from a segmented process identifying those who had attended a number of events within the last two years. The main findings of this dissertation identified the concept of ‘community’ and ‘individual’ and how they were interrelated to the sociological impact of a cultural event. Key themes of wellbeing, sense of identity, social bond and image/perception were classified as having an influential sociological effect on the community and the individual. Conclusions to the research have been presented within a conceptualised model outlining the identified main findings and recommending an approach to future work in the field of Events Management.
